20 Years, a lot of Kilometers, and a Mission Close to My Heart

Many of you know my son, Charlie. When he was just 11 months old, our lives changed in an instant when he suffered severe burns to 36% of his body. We spent years navigating the surgeries and recovery that follow such a traumatic injury, and it’s a journey no parent or child should have to walk alone.

Charlie has been the Ambassador for Bike 4 Burns for several years now, representing the courage of every child in the burns unit. But for the 20th Anniversary of this event, I’m doing more than just waiting at the finish line.

Riding with the Best: The 20th Anniversary Trek

This year, I’m joining the amazing Bike 4 Burns crew to make the trek from Bundaberg to Brisbane. I’ll be riding alongside a dedicated group of firefighters, healthcare workers, and supporters who give their all every year to make a difference.

Being part of this pack means the world to me. We aren't just covering kilometers; we’re raising funds that go directly to the Children’s Hospital Foundation to support:

  • Cutting-edge Research to minimize scarring and pain.

  • Wellness Programs that support the emotional recovery of young burn survivors.

  • Direct Support for families currently facing the toughest days of their lives.

Join Our Journey

I am incredibly proud to ride for Charlie and alongside this fantastic crew. This cause hits home for us every single day, and we want to ensure every child gets the same world-class care that Charlie did.

Why I’m Trading My Sanity for a Bike Seat

Tuesday 21st Apr

Most of you know our story, but for those who don’t, it’s one that sticks with you. When my son Charlie was just 11 months old, an accident left him with severe burns to 36% of his body. Our lives shifted in an instant to a world of surgeries, hospital stays, and a recovery process that most adults couldn't handle, let alone a baby.

Charlie has been the Ambassador for Bike 4 Burns for years now, and he’s been such a little champion about it. But this year is the 20th Anniversary of the ride, and I realised I couldn’t just stand at the finish line with a sign anymore. It was time to get in the saddle myself.

The Plan (Or Lack Thereof)

I’m joining the incredible Bike 4 Burns crew—a bunch of legends with absolute hearts of gold—to ride from Bundaberg to Brisbane. That’s 630 kilometres.

If you know me, you know I’m just a mum in my mid-30s, definitely not a pro athlete. There will be questionable lycra. There will be plenty of hills. And there will be a significant amount of me questioning every life choice that led me to this moment while I’m pedalling somewhere outside of Maryborough.

Why I’m Doing It

I’m doing this because I’ve seen firsthand where this money goes. The Children’s Hospital Foundation doesn’t just fund research; they provide the kind of on-the-ground support that keeps families like ours from falling apart during their darkest days.

How You Can Help (And See Me Suffer)

If you’ve ever wanted to pay to see me struggle through 630km of pure physical "character building," now is your chance.

  • Donate: Every dollar helps. Seriously. Plus, it’s tax-deductible, so you get the tax break and I get the saddle sores. It’s a fair trade, right?

  • Share: Even if you can’t chip in, sharing this post helps us reach people who can.

This cause is so close to my heart, and knowing I have your support is the only thing that’s going to get me through those long stretches of highway.

Wish me luck—I’m going to need it (and probably a very large coffee at the finish line).
