What is Trek for Sick Kids?

This isn’t just a trek. It’s a chance to do something powerful with your time, your energy and your community. Over six days, you’ll take on one of Australia’s most iconic and rugged trails, the Larapinta Trail. You’ll walk up to 66km through vast desert plains, ancient ridgelines and sacred cultural landmarks. You’ll rise before the sun, push through challenging climbs and fall asleep under the stars, knowing every step you take is supporting sick kids and their families.

This experience is about more than scenery. It’s about purpose. Every participant commits to raising $15,000 for the Children’s Hospital Foundation. That’s 15,000 reasons to show up, keep going and finish what you started.

It’s tough. It’s unforgettable. It matters.

Supporting kids like Lachlan

When a child ends up in hospital, everything changes for their family. Life becomes appointments, procedures, fear and waiting. Children’s Hospital Foundation exists to help kids get better, sooner.

On the trek you’ll be sore, dusty and well outside your usual routine. But every step is a reminder: this is just a glimpse of what families go through when their child is in hospital, families just like Lachlan’s.

On the outside four-year-old Lachlan looks like a happy, healthy boy, but behind the smiles, he faces an ongoing and life-threatening battle. Lachlan was born with chronic kidney disease and at just four months old, he went into end stage renal failure.

Since then, Lachlan’s journey has been anything but easy. His family made the hard decision to leave their home in Toowoomba and move to Brisbane, so he could receive specialist care at Queensland Children’s Hospital.

The past year has been a rollercoaster for Lachlan and his family. In what was supposed to answer their hopes and dreams, Lachlan’s little body rejected his kidney transplant.

Despite the setbacks and countless emergency admissions, Lachlan has shown extraordinary strength. He faces each challenge with resilience beyond his years.

Recently, he completed his first intensive block of physiotherapy and as a non-verbal child, he’s becoming more confident in expressing himself in his own unique way. He continues to inspire those around him with his quiet courage and fighting spirit.

Through your fundraising, you’ll directly support the Children’s Hospital Foundation’s work right across Queensland, for kids like Lachlan.
